1896 wird in der Nähe von Šternberk eine mittelalterliche Handschrift gefunden, die zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts als Annales De Natura Rerum Ex Diversis Fragmentis seine gewisse Bekanntheit erringt. Bis heute ist der Sinn ihres, großteils aus Kombinationen der Buchstaben A bis H und der Zahlen 1 bis 8 bestehenden Inhalts nicht geklärt. Eine erste Interpretation liefert ein gewisser Julius Jaroslawski. Für ihn gibt die Schrift das Ergebnis einer »gewissen Zählung« wieder. Einer Zählung, zu deren Sinn den Gelehrten aber die »größte Unwissenheit« plagt. In der Folge nehmen sich Historiker, Geografen, Linguisten, Schachspieler, Musiker und Schriftsteller der Handschrift an. Sei es, um sie auf ihren historischen Gehalt zu prüfen, sei es, um sie »nach Lust und Wonne mit dem (ihnen) angezeigten Sinn zu füllen.« Mit den Miscellanea Analytica (2015) liegt erstmals eine umfangreiche Sammlung der wichtigsten Schriften zu den Annales vor.

 

Die Annales bilden aber auch das Fundament der Forschungen von Gottlieb Faktor. Zwischen 1986 und 1994 versuchte dieser exzentrische Privatier aus Salzburg, mittels einer genau für diesem Zweck konstruierten Kamera, eine, im Regen verborgene, natürliche Ordnung der Dinge festzustellen. Die Annales, in deren Buchstaben- und Zahlenreihen er die Kartografie von, im 14. Jahrhundert gefallener Regentropfen zu erkennen hoffte, dienten ihm dabei als historisches Vorbild und gedankliches Fundament.

In 1896 a medieval manuscript, titled Annales De Natura Rerum Ex Diversis Fragmentis is found near Šternberk (CZ). Its content consists mostly of apparently random combinations of the letters A to H and the numbers 1 to 8. Until now the meaning of this work remains in the dark. According to Julius Jaroslawski, who delivers a first interpretation, the ancient writing reflects the result of a »certain counting«. A counting, however, that remains absolutely mysterious in its meaning. In the course of the early 20th century a great number of historians, geographers, statisticians, linguists, chess players, musicians and writers start to deal with the manuscript in many different ways. Whether to check its historical content or to fill it with the meaning just indicated to them.​

 

The so-called Annales De Natura Rerum Ex Diversis Fragmentis can also be considered as the starting point of Gottlieb Faktor's research. Between 1986 and 1994, this eccentric privateer from Salzburg tried to determine a natural order of things, which he hoped to find in the rain. A so-called "raindrop camera," a self-constructed device, was to provide him with the necessary data. The mysterious notes of the Annales, in which Gottlieb Faktor wanted to recognize the exact recording of raindrops that had already fallen in the 14th century, served him as a historical model and intellectual foundation.
